The Culver-Stockton College baseball team earned its first two victories of the season with a doubleheader sweep over Bacone College in Muskogee, Okla. this weekend.
In the opening game, senior pitcher Craig Bastert was spectacular in earning the decision in the 4-1 victory over the Warriors. Bastert pitched a complete-game three-hitter, striking out 14 and walking none in the contest. He threw 112 pitches, including 78 strikes.
In the nightcap, C-SC fell behind 3-1 after four innings before plating two runs in the fifth inning, a single run in the sixth and three more in the seventh to capture a 7-3 victory.
Brock Kartheiser was the hitting star for the Wildcats, collecting three hits in three at-bats and driving in four runs. Kartheiser recorded two doubles and a triple in his three at-bats.
Trent Brisboe and Mike Guglielmi also recorded a multiple hit game with two hits and a run batted in each. Carroll collected his second multiple-hit game of the day with two hits and scored a run for the visitors.
The final game of the four-game opening weekend series with the Warriors, scheduled for Sunday, has been canceled due to weather concerns.
The Wildcats (2-1) are slated to play next Friday and Saturday, Feb. 7-8, in Jackson, Miss., against Belhaven College. The two teams will play a single game Friday afternoon and a doubleheader Saturday.
